Introductory Lesson - beginning the collaboration


Materials needed:

- polycom (video conferencing equipment) or Skype, adobe connect with microphone, speakers and camera
- mark x on floor with tape where students need to stand for spotlight sharing.
- prepare introductions (math question, name, grade, something they like, my favourite number is... because...)
- Smart Notebook 100 chart OR mini 100 charts (2 per page)

3 Part Lesson


Minds On:


Part 1 - Teacher Intro (10 mins) (Teacher 1 running this part and sharing their screen via adobe connect )
- Each teacher take turns - name, school, grade, town (show map), my favourite number is... because....
(google map/google earth - on smart board)

- Teacher 1 - talk about how sound carries. Sign language clapping to show our support, encouragement and thanks.
- Teacher 2 - Spotlight and Learning Goal: To get to know each other and how to effectively ask questions over the polycom.

Part 2

- Student Intro through "spotlight" sharing. (15-20 mins)
- when students answer a question they can come up (to the designated spot on floor - mark with x) and do their introduction.
- Introduction -- in partners - tell name, grade, something they like, and "my favourite number is... because...", partner does the same.

Action:

Guess My Number (30 mins) (Teacher 2 takes control and shares computer screen through adobe connect)
Materials needed: 100 charts for students (paper copy), smart board:100 chart

Teacher 1 and Teacher 2 play guess my number with kids. kids answer yes or no to teachers questions. Teachers record thinking on smart board. Count questions asked. Becomes healthy challenge.

Class 1 class picks secret number and class 2 class ask questions. Secret number holders move to "spotlight" area. Teacher 1 class records on smart board as model, all kids play on individual 100 chart.

Teacher 2 class picks secret number...

Repeat switching who has the secret number back and forth (time permitting)

Consolidation

Teacher 2 - Which questions made it easier to find the magic number? How did these questions make it easier? (2 or 3 responses)
Teacher 1 - Did you enjoy the video conference experience? Why? (2 or 3 responses)
